Recent Iowa City High School graduate Olivia Baird has been awarded the 2019 Greater Iowa City Area HBA Women’s Council scholarship.
Baird completed her high school career with a 3.84 grade point average and plans to attend the University of Iowa in August to study health and human physiology. She has worked with children in various capacities and volunteered as a leader for YMCA Camp Wapsie in Coggon, Iowa. Her parents are Sara and Erika Riggs. Baird is connected to the home-building industry through Erika, her stepmother, who works for Iowa City’s Lammers Construction Services. Erika has volunteered on multiple Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity builds and taught Baird and her brother home-repair skills through projects around their home.
The Iowa City Area HBA’s Women’s Council raises scholarship money year-round through HBA meeting raffles, a silent auction and other means. Scholarships mainly go to students wishing to pursue a career in the skilled trades/home building industry.
