Aging-in-Place Forum: Working with Contractors to Modify Your Home

The 2020 Aging-in-Place Forums are online! Today’s topic is Working with Contractors to Modify Your Home and features two of our members: Andy Martin of Martin Construction and GT Karr of Sueppel’s Siding and Remodeling.
The pair will be presenting tips on how to find and qualify a contractor for construction and remodeling projects. They’ll discuss what to ask, best practices when looking to hire and expectations clients should have about their contractors for the best experience. Andy and GT also will cover:
- Making sure the contractor is licensed and insured.
- Why contracts and payment schedules are important.
- Using change orders.
- Other ways to ensure you’re getting a quality, dependable and professional contractor.
- Easy and affordable aging-in-place-measures.
The Aging-in-Place Forums program is a collaboration among the Iowa City Area HBA, Johnson County Livable Community and the Iowa City Area Association of Realtors. They provide information, ideas and resources to successfully age at home.
