Hole-in-One and Hills Bank Low Score Highlight Golf Outing

Our hardworking home-building industry members enjoyed a day off during the annual Greater Iowa City Area HBA’s Nail Drivers Open golf outing at Coralville’s Brown Deer Golf Club July 9. Thanks to all tournament sponsors (see image below)!  The weather, though a bit sticky, cooperated for the shotgun, best-ball event as 136 players hit it around, often finding the sweet spot and always having a good time.

First-place, top-flight honors went to Hills Bank’s team of Brendan Keese and Kenzie Hein, with guests Josh Schonhorst and Chris Lee of Turf Masters, who shot 56. Jason Sherrill with CertainTeed hammered a hole-in-one on the par-three 12th hole to win $2,500 worth of blinds and a set of Ping irons from Budget Blinds of Eastern Iowa. It’s been two years since a hole-in-one was achieved at the Nail Drivers Open.

Our Women’s Council sold the ever-popular mulligans, sponsored by Hodge Construction, raising $790 toward scholarships for students entering skilled trades. Ferguson Bath & Kitchen also collected donations for cigars on its hole to collect another $220 for the fund.

Special thanks to Golf Committee members Chad Keune with Advantage Custom Builders, Dan Wegeman of AW Welt Ambrisco Insurance and Marty Tuning from RSM US; and Brown Deer Golf Course for taking great care of us.
