As part of NAHB’s Professional Women in Building Week (and Associate Member Appreciation Month) we’re spotlighting Lisa Mills, marketing representative for member cleaning company SERVPRO.
Before joining SERVPRO in April 2019, Lisa was a real estate broker in California (she still holds her license). She relocated to Iowa to be close to her daughter whom is completing her PhD at the University of Iowa.
“SERVPRO has been a member of the HBA since 2010, and I felt it was important to get involved with my new-found community,” said Lisa. “Once I found out that they had a Women’s Council and what their purpose was, I knew instantly I wanted to be part of that as well.”
Lisa has helped on a number of Women’s Council events, including the golf tournament and Holiday Party. “Planning events is a highlight,” said Lisa. “What I especially like about the council is engaging with fellow members, building relationships and networking. The group is a great forum for empowering fellow professional women.”
Lisa added that the home-building industry has evolved to feature more women in leadership positions and recognize women for their work. “More and more, women are seen as equals.”
She hopes that notion trickles down to young girls considering careers in, or linked to, home building. “Helping girls and women become successful in a predominately male industry is vital to continue to see women flourish as leaders in business.”
